A gubernatorial aspirant and daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Iyabo Obasanjo, has congratulated Senator Solomon Adeola (Yayi) on his emergence as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.
Obasanjo also announced that she has withdrawn from the race and dropped her 2027 governorship ambition.
It was reported that she made the announcement in a statement signed on Monday, April 13, 2026, following the adoption of Yayi for the APC ticket at a caucus meeting of the party held in Abeokuta.
Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the 10th Senate, was adopted during a strategic caucus meeting held at the party’s secretariat on Abiola Way, Abeokuta.
The meeting, convened by the state chairman, Yemi Sanusi, was attended by Governor Dapo Abiodun, former governor Olusegun Osoba, as well as Gbenga Daniel, Ibikunle Amosun, Kola Bajomo, Salisu Shuaib, Gbenga Kaka, Gbenga Obadara, and other caucus members.
In her reaction to the development, Iyabo Obasanjo thanked the APC leadership for the opportunity to participate in the selection process and appealed to her supporters to remain calm and steadfast.
In her statement, Iyabo Obasanjo said: “I congratulate him and wish him every success. I also thank the state and national leaders of our great party for the opportunity to participate in the nomination process.
“Based on these developments, I have decided to suspend my gubernatorial aspiration.
“To my supporters across Ogun State, I am deeply grateful for your calm, steadfast support and unwavering trust throughout this journey. Together, we move forward with patience, strength and hope.”She said (Newsexpress)
