Kano State Governor,  Abba Kabir Yusuf, has relieved the state’s Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, of his appointment with immediate effect.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Tofa, the actions are part of efforts to reform the state civil service.

Mr Tofa said the decision was aimed at repositioning the state’s civil service to improve efficiency, discipline and service delivery across government institutions.

“The decision forms part of the ongoing efforts of the present administration to reposition the state civil service for greater efficiency, discipline and improved service delivery across all government institutions,” Mr Tofa said.

The development comes amid recent political realignments in Kano State following Governor Yusuf’s reported defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The political shift has triggered adjustments within the state’s political and administrative structures as the government moves to align with the new party framework.

Governor Yusuf thanked the outgoing Head of Service for his contributions during his tenure.

“We wish him the best in his future endeavours and pray for his continued success in all aspects of life,” the statement quoted Mr Yusuf as saying.

Acting Head of Service appointed

Following the removal, the governor directed Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, the Permanent Secretary for Administration and General Services in the Cabinet Office, to assume the position in an acting capacity.

Mr Tofa said Mrs Maimota would oversee the office pending the appointment of a substantive Head of Service.

“The governor has directed that Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, the Permanent Secretary, Administration and General Services at the Cabinet Office, should serve in an acting capacity pending the appointment of a substantive Head of Service,” the statement said.

Mr Yusuf also instructed the outgoing Head of Service, Mr Musa, to hand over the affairs of the office to Mrs Maimota no later than Wednesday, 11 March 2026.
