Security concerns across Nigeria’s North-West have intensified following the midnight abduction of Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza, a Kebbi State High Court judge, at his residence in the Bunza Local Government Area.
The judge was taken in the early hours of Sunday shortly after returning home from a trip to neighboring Sokoto State. According to eyewitness accounts, armed men invaded his compound along Zogirma Road around midnight, firing shots sporadically into the air to spread panic before forcibly taking him to an undisclosed location. No other family members were reported injured.
The Kebbi State Police Command, through its spokesperson SP Bashir Usman, confirmed the incident:
“I can confirm that Hon. Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza was abducted from his residence in Bunza around midnight.”
In response, Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Muhammad Hadejia, ordered the immediate deployment of tactical and intelligence units to comb nearby forests and identified hideouts to secure the judge’s safe release.
Judicial officials in Kebbi State expressed deep anxiety over the kidnapping, describing it as a troubling escalation for the safety of judicial officers in the region.
