Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in Kwara State have pledged to abide by any consensus arrangement adopted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The position was made known on Thursday in Ilorin during a press briefing by the Amalgamated APC Elders and Stakeholders Forum, comprising representatives from the three senatorial districts of the state.
The stakeholders said they remain committed to whatever decision is reached by Mr Tinubu, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and the National Working Committee of the APC.
Prof. Khalid Dasuki and Ambassador Julius Balogun, who spoke on behalf of the forum, said the party leadership has demonstrated strong political foresight in managing internal arrangements across several states.
“We are proud of the proactive leadership being demonstrated by the president and the party… we trust in the judgement and wisdom of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” they said.
The remarks reflect ongoing efforts by the APC to use consensus-based strategies to reduce internal disputes and strengthen cohesion ahead of the 2027 elections.
Reference to past political strategy
The stakeholders recalled President Tinubu’s earlier role in stabilising the APC structure in Kwara State during the 2019 elections, which led to the success of the “Otoge” political movement and the emergence of Governor AbdulRazaq.
“The President already has a positive precedent with us here in Kwara… it was through his leadership that the party was successfully navigated in 2019,” they said.
The group urged party leaders to ensure that any consensus candidate must be widely acceptable and capable of sustaining APC’s political dominance in the state.
They stressed the need for unity, warning against internal divisions that could weaken the party’s electoral chances.
“With the Otoge Revolution of 2019, Kwara State was liberated… the state cannot afford to go back,” they added.
Commitment to party unity
The stakeholders pledged to mobilise members across Kwara in support of the final decision of the party leadership.
“We are fully committed to rallying party faithful… to ensure APC continues to retain the levers of power in the state beyond 2027,” they said.
