Liverpool’s pre-season victory over Sunderland was not only a promising start under new head coach Andoni Iraola but also another reminder that the club’s academy continues to produce exciting talent.

Lewis Koumas wrapped up the victory late in the game, collecting a clever pass from Szoboszlai before cutting inside his defender and finishing confidently from close range. For Morrison, the goal served as another statement of intent as he looks to force his way into first-team plans, while Koumas once again demonstrated why he is regarded as one of the brightest attacking prospects at Anfield.

The pair’s performances underlined the strength of Liverpool’s academy and offered supporters plenty of optimism ahead of the new campaign. With opportunities likely to arise during pre-season and across a demanding 2026/27 season, both youngsters have strengthened their case for more minutes in the senior squad.
