A young man has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command in connection with the alleged murder of his girlfriend at a hotel in the Lekki area of Lagos.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on Sunday night after the couple checked into the hotel under false identities. Hotel staff reportedly became suspicious after the man was seen leaving the premises alone in the early hours of Monday morning.
When hotel workers entered the room to clean, they discovered the lifeless body of the woman lying in a pool of blood. She is believed to have been strangled, though the cause of death is yet to be officially confirmed pending an autopsy.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest on Monday afternoon, stating that the suspect was apprehended while attempting to flee the city.
“We have a suspect in custody, and investigations are ongoing,” Hundeyin said. “We are working to determine the full circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.”
The identity of the victim is being withheld until her family is notified. The hotel has also been sealed off temporarily to aid the investigation.
This case has sparked renewed concerns about gender-based violence and safety in public spaces, with advocacy groups calling for stronger protection measures for women.
The police have urged anyone with useful information to come forward and assist the investigation.
