Lionel Messi reached 930 career goals after scoring a stunning free-kick as Inter Miami were held to a 2-2 draw by San Diego FC in Major League Soccer on Sunday night.
The 39-year-old Argentine equalised in the 24th minute after San Diego had taken the lead through Anders Dreyer in the 12th minute. Messi’s goal was his 20th in the 2026 MLS season and his 75th career free-kick goal.
Messi was fouled just outside the penalty area before stepping up to take the resulting free-kick.
The Inter Miami captain curled his left-footed effort around the wall. The ball struck the post before crossing the line, leaving goalkeeper CJ dos Santos unable to keep it out.
The goal also took Messi’s tally for Inter Miami to 101 goals, just four days after he scored his 100th goal for the club in the Campeones Cup victory over Cruz Azul.
Suárez puts Miami ahead
Inter Miami completed the comeback in the 74th minute when Luis Suárez found the net to make it 2-1.
The hosts, however, could not hold on to the lead as Dreyer struck again in the 82nd minute to complete his brace and restore parity for San Diego.
The match ended 2-2, giving both sides a point.
Inter Miami’s winless run extends
The draw extended Inter Miami’s run of consecutive MLS draws to four matches.
The club now has 12 wins, four defeats and 10 draws, giving it 46 points. Inter Miami remain third in the Eastern Conference.
Messi had opportunities to score a second goal late in the match, but San Diego goalkeeper dos Santos denied him on three occasions during the closing minutes.
The latest goal adds another milestone to Messi’s remarkable scoring record.
With 930 career goals, the Argentine continues his pursuit of the 1,000-goal mark while also remaining a key figure for Inter Miami during the 2026 MLS campaign.
