England manager Thomas Tuchel has recalled Trent Alexander-Arnold and Cole Palmer to the national team for the opening games of the 2026-27 UEFA Nations League.
Tuchel named a 27-man squad for a four-match international window running from 21 September to 6 October, with England set to face Spain, Czechia and Croatia.
Alexander-Arnold returns after more than a year
Alexander-Arnold, who now plays for Real Madrid, returns to the England squad for the first time since June 2025.
The right-back is joined by his Real Madrid teammate Jude Bellingham, who retained his place in the squad.
Palmer has also been recalled after missing England’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His return comes after the Chelsea midfielder began the new club season strongly.
New faces and other recalls
Tuchel has made eight changes to the squad that represented England at the World Cup.
Among the other players selected are Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall, Liverpool youngster Rio Ngumoha and Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott.
Manchester City’s Phil Foden is among those who miss out from the World Cup squad.
England’s Nations League fixtures
England will open their campaign against Spain at Wembley on 26 September.
They will then travel to Prague to face Czechia on 29 September, before playing Croatia in Rijeka on 3 October.
The fourth fixture will see Czechia visit Wembley on 6 October.
