The Nigeria Democratic Congress has announced the closure of the sale of Expression of Interest Forms for aspirants seeking to contest the presidency on the party’s platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party, however, extended the deadline for the collection of Expression of Interest Forms for other elective positions, including State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, and Governorship seats, from May 17 to May 24, 2026.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Enekweizu, in Abuja on Monday.

Screening of aspirants begins

According to the statement, screening of aspirants who have completed the Expression of Interest Forms will commence on Tuesday and end on May 26.

The party added that the collection and return of Nomination Forms for screened and cleared aspirants would begin on Wednesday and also close on May 26.

The NDC stressed that no further extension would be granted and urged aspirants to comply strictly with the approved timetable.

Required Documents

The party directed aspirants to appear for screening and pre-qualification interviews with relevant documents, including educational certificates, birth certificates or declarations of age, passport photographs, voter cards, party membership cards, and curriculum vitae.

It added that all submitted documents must be provided in six copies.

Criteria for Screening

According to the statement, aspirants will be assessed based on factors such as competence, capacity, character, local political considerations, and the wishes of the electorate.

The party also noted that its affirmative action policy for women, youths, and persons living with disabilities would form part of the screening considerations.

The NDC further encouraged aspirants to embrace consensus-building ahead of the primaries, stating that only cleared aspirants would be eligible to purchase Nomination Forms.

The latest development comes as political parties continue preparations for the 2027 elections, with party screenings, endorsements, consultations and primary election activities gathering momentum nationwide.
