Niger State has announced the reopening of primary and secondary schools shut at the peak of banditry attacks in Rafi, Shiroro and Munya among other LGAs of the state.

Governor Abubakar Sani Bello made this known at the commissioning of the student twin hostels, staff quarters, lecture theatres and Fire Service Centre at the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai.

Bello said the schools were reopened following the tremendous improvement in security in the affected local governments, adding that government would continue to provide security in the affected areas to enable children to stay in school.

He said the new hostels and other structures would help reduce the accommodation challenges faced by students in the university.

He said the state government was committed to deploying more resources for the infrastructural development of educational institutions in the state, adding that the sector was largely hampered by the twin challenges of COVID-19 and insecurity in the state.
