The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Osun State Command, has confirmed that it is working closely with the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to rearrest seven inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ilesa.
The escape occurred in the early hours of Tuesday following a heavy downpour that damaged parts of the facility’s perimeter fence, creating a breach through which the inmates fled.
Speaking on Wednesday in Osogbo, the NCoS Public Relations Officer, Mr. Joel Oyedokun, said a coordinated search operation is ongoing.

“We are working with sister agencies and have deployed our men to various locations,” Oyedokun said. “The biometrics of the escaped inmates are with us, and we are using them as part of our efforts to track and recapture them.”
He assured that updates would be provided as arrests are made, stressing that the situation is being actively managed in the field.
Addressing concerns over communication with other agencies, Oyedokun clarified that the necessary information about the escape had been shared through an established platform used by security PROs in the state.
“I may not have sent the message to the police PRO personally, but all security PROs in Osun State received the alert officially through our joint platform,” he explained.
Oyedokun added that the command remains committed to ensuring all escapees are returned to custody promptly.
