Nigerian professional wrestler, Isaac Odugbesan, popularly known as Oba Femi, defeated 10-time WWE Champion Mr Brock Lesnar in under five minutes during his WrestleMania debut on Sunday.
The high-profile clash at WrestleMania 42 ended in dramatic fashion as the 27-year-old Nigerian overpowered the veteran in one of the headline bouts.
In a symbolic moment, Mr. Lesnar left his wrestling gear in the ring after the match — a gesture widely interpreted in professional wrestling as a sign of retirement.
Dominant performance
The bout began with both wrestlers testing each other’s strength, with Mr Lesnar briefly taking control through a series of offensive moves.
However, Mr Odugbesan absorbed the pressure and shifted momentum with a dominant display.
After surviving an F5 from Mr. Lesnar, he responded with a chokeslam before sealing victory with his “Fall From Grace” sit-out powerbomb for the pinfall.
Career rise
Mr Odugbesan, also known as “The Ruler,” is a former NXT champion and has spent just three months on WWE’s main roster.
A native of Lagos, he began as a track and field athlete before signing with WWE in 2021 through its NIL programme.
He went on to win the 2023 NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament and the 2024 Men’s Iron Survivor Challenge, establishing himself as one of the promotion’s fastest-rising stars.
Next challenge
During the WrestleMania Sunday post-show, Mr Odugbesan sent a message to Roman Reigns, popularly known as the “Original Tribal Chief,” hinting at a possible title challenge before the end of the year.
The statement drew a loud reaction from fans and has fuelled speculation about a potential blockbuster matchup.
