Former senator Shehu Sani has strongly criticized ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi over their recent remarks about President Bola Tinubu’s performance. Sani argued that both men lack the moral authority to attack the current administration.
Responding to El-Rufai’s accusations of nepotism in Tinubu’s government—particularly regarding appointments within the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL)—Sani accused him of double standards. He pointed out that El-Rufai remained silent during President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, despite similar allegations of favoritism.
“There were people who kept quiet when Buhari filled political positions with his kinsmen, but now speak up only because the power dynamics no longer benefit them,” Sani said. He also challenged El-Rufai’s claim of having delivered Kaduna State for Tinubu in the 2023 election. According to Sani, results showed that PDP’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar, won more votes in the state, casting doubt on El-Rufai’s political influence.
Additionally, Sani took issue with El-Rufai’s criticisms of Kaduna’s current governor, Uba Sani, a Tinubu ally. He accused El-Rufai of authoritarianism during his time in office and questioned his credibility as a democratic reformer.
The exchange reflects the deepening rift among Nigeria’s political elite, especially among figures connected to Kaduna State’s leadership.
