The Director-General, National Safety Investigation Bureau, Captain Alex Badeh, has disagreed with the United States’ submission that Nigerian airports are generally unsafe.
Stating the need to consider context and metrics used in such evaluations, Badeh acknowledged that though such challenges as perimeter fencing and wildlife intrusion exist at some airports, they are not unique to Nigeria but also occur at airports globally.
He gave the clarification in response to recent concerns over the safety of Nigerian airports, updates on its investigation into the helicopter crash that claimed the life of Herbert Wigwe, and outlined its expanded mandate to cover all modes of transportation.
He commended the efforts of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria in implementing upgrades and recognized the need for continuous improvement.
