The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has stated that the completion and full operation of the Jos Inland Dry Port will help close gaps in shipping services and significantly boost revenue generation in the North-Central region.
Mr. Pius Akutah, the Executive Secretary of the Council, made the announcement in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja.
Akutah emphasized that the Federal Government, under President Tinubu’s administration, is committed to completing the inland dry port projects in Heipang, Plateau State.
He noted that once operational, the Jos Inland Dry Port will bring shipping services closer to shippers in the hinterlands, support individual export businesses, and generate revenue for both the North-Central region and the Federal Government.
Highlighting the importance of maritime logistics in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Akutah stressed the need for seamless cargo movement across African nations.
He also reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to the project and expressed interest in collaborating with the Plateau State Government to expedite the development of the inland dry port. Additionally, he mentioned that the NSC is working with the Ministry of Transportation to improve rail connectivity to the ports.
