Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has called on individuals he described as sponsors of insecurity in Nigeria to desist from destabilising the country and allow President Bola Tinubu to focus on governance and development.

Mr Okpebholo made the remarks on Tuesday during the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign for the Edo South Senatorial District local government elections held at Urhokpota Hall in Benin City.

The governor alleged that rising cases of kidnapping, banditry, and terrorism were being deliberately fueled to undermine the administration of President Tinubu.

“There is no vacancy in Aso Rock” — Okpebholo

Mr Okpebholo insisted that political instability or violence would not alter the country’s leadership structure, stressing that the presidency remains firmly occupied.

“There is no vacancy in Aso Rock. They can even kidnap all of us, yes, there is no vacancy in Aso Rock. What is happening today is in the hands of the opposition,” — Mr Monday Okpebholo

He argued that those allegedly sponsoring insecurity were politically motivated and had failed in their objectives.

“They have failed. Have they not failed? Is it by kidnapping children? Then who are you going to govern? There will be nobody for you to govern. So let them give us peace so that the President and other elected officials can govern effectively,” he added.

Support for President Tinubu’s administration

Mr Okpebholo also defended the performance of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that ongoing economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy, were beginning to reflect in developmental projects across Edo State and the country.

He urged residents to support the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing the party as committed to delivering dividends of democracy.

The governor also reiterated the party’s target of securing 2.5 million votes for President Tinubu in Edo State in the upcoming elections.

APC confidence ahead of elections

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dennis Idahosa, praised Mr Okpebholo’s administration for promoting youth inclusion and leadership opportunities within government structures.

He said the current administration had created platforms for young people to actively participate in governance.

Similarly, the APC State Chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, described the party as the most viable political platform in Edo State, urging candidates in the forthcoming council elections to take government achievements to the grassroots.

He called on party members to ensure strong mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
