Opposition leader and former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has raised alarm over the rising wave of kidnappings and killings across Nigeria. In a statement shared on his X account, Obi described the country’s security situation as dire, urging immediate action to protect lives and restore public confidence.
“Today, no one is safe from the pervasive threat of kidnappings and killings sweeping through many regions of our nation,” Obi wrote.
Focusing on his home state, Anambra, the former governor lamented recent incidents of violence, including the murder of the Manager of the College of Nursing Sciences in Ihiala and the abduction of two Reverend Sisters—one a school principal and the other a teacher. These victims, he noted, were individuals dedicated to uplifting their communities through their work in education, healthcare, and agriculture.
“These are people contributing immensely to our national development through their sacrifices. Nothing justifies these kidnappings and killings,” Obi stated.
