A 72-year-old man, Anayinwa Daniel, was arraigned on Thursday before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly breaking into a residence and destroying property.
Daniel, whose residential address was not provided, is facing a four-count charge bordering on conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, assault, and malicious damage. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The prosecutor, Inspector Adegeshin Famuyiwa, told the court that the offences occurred on February 2 at about 10 a.m. on James Daniel Street, Olorunshogo Community, Ikorodu.
Famuyiwa alleged that the defendant unlawfully scaled a fence and broke two padlocks securing two rooms owned by the complainant, Mr. James Daniel. He further stated that the defendant destroyed a CCTV camera valued at ₦150,000 and damaged an SUV (registration number KKH 596 AA), resulting in an estimated loss of ₦400,000.
In addition, the prosecutor said that on February 24, at the same location, the defendant assaulted the complainant by striking him in the chest with a large stone, causing bodily harm.
The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravene Sections 168(d), 245, and 350 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.
Presiding Magistrate A.O. Ogbe granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦200,000, with two sureties in like sum. The case was adjourned until June 5 for further mention.
