Police Arrest Four Over Phone Theft From Asaba Shops, Recover Nine Android Phones

The Delta State Police Command arrests four suspects, including one woman, over the alleged theft of mobile phones from retail shops in Asaba and recovers nine new Android phones still in their cartons.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this on Monday in Asaba.

According to him, the command had received a series of reports on the theft of mobile phones from shops within Asaba and its environs. Acting on the reports, operatives, on credible intelligence, arrested the four suspects on 25 July at their hideout along St Brigid’s Road, Asaba.

SP Edafe said the nine recovered Android phones were brand new and still packaged in their cartons at the time of recovery.

“The suspects are members of a syndicate who specialise in stealing brand new phones from retail shops within Asaba and its environs,” he said.

According to the police spokesman, the suspects confessed to the crime. They remain in police custody as investigations continue and are yet to appear before a court.

The command said investigations are ongoing to establish the full extent of the syndicate’s operations and to trace the shops affected.
