The Abia State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a community leader, Mr. Igwe Akwu, in Okon-Aku Community, Ohafia Local Government Area. The incident occurred last Friday, sparking tension in the area. DSP Maureen Chinaka, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that normalcy has since been restored, and several suspects have been apprehended in connection with the case.

According to DSP Chinaka, four injured victims were rushed to a hospital and are currently receiving treatment, while one death has been recorded. She urged residents to embrace peace, avoid taking the law into their own hands, and cooperate with security agencies to maintain order. The police are continuing to monitor the community to ensure safety and prevent further disturbances.
Chinaka also stated that suspects are currently undergoing interrogation and will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations. She encouraged residents to continue with their lawful activities and report any suspicious individuals or incidents to the nearest police station or through the Commandโs emergency hotlines: 08035415405, 08079210004, 08079210005, and 08079210006.
Meanwhile, traditional rulers from the Ohafia community, under the Council of Ohafia Monarchs, condemned the violence that led to Mr. Akwuโs death. In a statement signed by the Udumeze of Ohafia Ancient Kingdom, His Royal Paramountcy Ezie Ohamoha, Elder Awa Udonsi, the council emphasised that no provocation justifies the killing of a community member and denounced the arson that followed the incident.
The council appealed to the warring compounds, Ndi Owom and Ndi Uma, to lay down their arms, stressing that no meaningful development can thrive in an atmosphere of conflict. Working alongside security agencies, the traditional rulers pledged to find lasting solutions to the crisis and prevent further escalation in the community.
