Kaduna — Two men, Stephen Godwin (26) and Nathan Vincent (28), were on Thursday arraigned before a Kaduna Magistrates’ Court for allegedly breaking into a shop and stealing goods valued at N1.2 million.
Godwin and Vincent, both residents of Ungwan Pama, Kaduna, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, break-in, and stealing. They pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendants, along with others still at large, committed the offence on Sept. 10 at Post Office Road, Sabon Tasha, Kaduna.
Leo alleged that they burgled a shop belonging to Mrs. Abigael Aaron and carted away beverages and homecare products worth N1.2 million.
He said the offences contravened Sections 58, 336, and 217 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017. Section 217 prescribes seven years imprisonment for stealing, while Section 336 carries a five-year term for break-in.
The presiding Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each, with two sureties in like sum. The sureties, he ruled, must be gainfully employed and present evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Kaduna State Government.
The case was adjourned until Oct. 23 for hearing.
