The Kano State Police Command has arrested a driver attached to the convoy of Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo for allegedly stealing a Toyota Hilux belonging to the Deputy Governor’s office.
According to a statement from the Deputy Governor’s Office, the vehicle has been recovered following a swift and coordinated operation by security operatives.
Confirming the development, the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Ibrahim Garba, said the recovery was made in the early hours of Wednesday after an intensive search led by the police.
“The suspect, who is a permanent and pensionable driver, is now in police custody and assisting investigators with useful information,” Garba disclosed.
He praised the prompt response and professionalism shown by the security agencies involved, describing their efforts as commendable.
The Deputy Governor’s Office, however, expressed disappointment over what it described as “a clear breach of trust by the arrested driver.”
“The general public is hereby advised to remain calm and rest assured that the security of lives and property remains the top priority of the Kano State Government, both within and outside the Government House,” the statement added.
The police have yet to release the suspect’s name as investigations continue into the motive behind the theft and whether any other persons were involved.
