The Adamawa State Police Command has recovered a Toyota Hilux vehicle valued at N7.5 million and arrested two suspects over alleged criminal conspiracy and receiving stolen property.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje.
According to the police, the suspects identified as Mustapha Suleiman of Wuro Hausa and Rabiu Garba, 38, of Jambutu in Yola North Local Government Area, were arrested following a complaint by Aliyu Usman.
Nguroje said the complainant reported the matter after discovering that the Toyota Hilux he had purchased for N7.5 million had earlier been reported stolen.
“The two were arrested following a report by Aliyu Usman. The complainant discovered that the Toyota Hilux he purchased for N7.5m had been reported stolen,” he said.
Vehicle stolen in Rivers State
Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle was stolen in Rivers State in June 2026 before being transported to Adamawa.
According to the police, a suspect identified as Mati, who is currently on the run, allegedly conspired with the arrested suspects to sell the stolen vehicle to the unsuspecting buyer.
“The fleeing suspect allegedly conspired with the two arrested persons and sold the vehicle to the complainant,” Nguroje added.
Following the report, operatives of the command arrested the two suspects, recovered the vehicle and successfully traced its rightful owner.
Police commend buyer’s honesty
The Commissioner of Police, Kabiru Hassan, commended the complainant for promptly reporting the discovery instead of concealing the matter.
He also advised members of the public to always verify vehicle ownership and documentation before completing any purchase.
The police commissioner directed investigators to intensify efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect and ensure that everyone linked to the crime is brought to justice.
“Investigations are ongoing, after which the suspects will be charged to court accordingly,” Hassan stated.
The recovery comes as police commands across the country continue to intensify efforts against vehicle theft, armed robbery and other criminal activities.
Recently, the Oyo State Police Command arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered a firearm allegedly used during a robbery operation along the Oyo-Iwo Expressway in Afijio Local Government Area.
