Omoyele Sowore, human rights activist, publisher of Sahara Reporters and 2027 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has launched a blistering attack on political brigandage, thuggery and corruption across Nigeria’s political landscape.

Speaking live on Voice of the People 90.3 FM, Sowore condemned what he described as the entrenched culture of violence, intimidation and elite corruption that continues to undermine democracy and the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.

“Political brigandage, thuggery, corruption — these are the things destroying this country,” Sowore said, insisting that both the ruling party and sections of the opposition were complicit in practices that keep the nation trapped in underdevelopment and insecurity.

He argued that the use of thugs and political violence during elections, combined with systemic corruption, had become normalised, leaving citizens poorer and more vulnerable. Sowore maintained that genuine change would remain impossible until leaders at every level abandoned these tactics and faced accountability.

The AAC presidential hopeful also criticised fellow opposition figures, accusing some of hypocrisy and of failing the integrity test required to lead Nigeria out of its current crises. He referenced past controversies, including issues linked to financial institutions and alleged compromises, as evidence that certain politicians could not be trusted to deliver the radical transformation the country needs.

Sowore’s comments come amid intensifying political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections and ongoing debates over insecurity, economic hardship and the credibility of the electoral process.

A consistent critic of successive administrations, Sowore has repeatedly called for a revolutionary overhaul of Nigeria’s governance structures, insisting that incremental reforms and elite pacts will not solve the country’s deep-rooted problems.
