First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has been conferred with the traditional title of Ugo Eze Anambra by traditional rulers representing the 179 communities in Anambra State.

The title, which means “the glory of the king” or “a Royal Eagle,” was conferred on Mrs Tinubu by the Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Chidubem Iweka, at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, on Thursday.

The traditional rulers said the title was conferred on the First Lady in recognition of what they described as her compassionate activities across the country.

Igwe Iweka said, “This is a title from all the royal fathers in the 179 communities of Anambra State. The title is called ‘Ugo Eze Anambra’, meaning ‘The glory of the king’ or a ‘Royal Eagle’, and it is in recognition of your compassionate works across the country.”

He also commended her role in the administration of President Bola Tinubu and welcomed her to Anambra.

“With your efforts, we have seen Mr President carrying out works across the country as well as other projects in our communities,” Igwe Iweka said, while praying for the First Lady to receive more wisdom.

The conferment came during Mrs Tinubu’s one-day working visit to Anambra State, where she launched the National Community Food Bank Programme for the South-East Zone.

She also commissioned an ICT centre at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, before participating in the food bank programme launch at the Old Government House, Amawbia.

The First Lady later attended the flag-off of a statewide empowerment programme organised by the wife of the Anambra State Governor, Nonye Soludo, at the Ekwueme Square.

First lady thanks traditional rulers

Responding to the honour, Mrs Tinubu expressed appreciation to the traditional rulers for the conferment.

“I feel deeply honoured by the conferment of a chieftaincy title by the royal fathers of this state. Igbo are very nice people,” she said.

Under the empowerment programme, 5,000 beneficiaries across Anambra’s 21 local government areas are expected to receive business grants, vocational tools and equipment.

The support covers areas including agriculture, agro-processing, beauty care and small-scale enterprises.

Another traditional title in Imo

The Anambra honour came a day after Mrs Tinubu received another traditional title during her visit to Imo State.

She was conferred with Oso Di Eme I of Imo State, meaning “She who supports her husband,” during her visit to the state on Wednesday.

The conferment highlights the growing recognition being given to the First Lady’s social and community-focused initiatives, particularly programmes targeting vulnerable Nigerians and grassroots empowerment.

Her Anambra visit also combined the traditional honour with government-backed initiatives focused on food security, digital access and economic empowerment across communities.
