Senator AbdulFatai Buhari, representing Oyo-North Constituency, has called on the Federal Government to address the deteriorating state of the Lagos-Ibadan-Ogbomosho road. Describing the route as critical for economic activities, he emphasized the urgent need for rehabilitation. Buhari’s concerns were raised on Wednesday night during an award ceremony organized by the Christian Youth Movement for Tinubu-Shettima in Abuja, where he was represented by his Chief of Staff, Bashir Salaudeen.

The Lagos-Ibadan-Ogbomosho highway is a crucial 65-kilometre stretch that connects the southern and northern regions of Nigeria, facilitating the movement of goods and people between key states such as Kwara, Niger, Kaduna, Kano, and Zamfara. The road has been under construction for more than a decade, rendering it nearly impassable for both travelers and heavy-duty vehicles transporting essential goods.

In his remarks after receiving the award, Buhari stressed the importance of fixing the highway, noting that its poor condition is a major hindrance to the nation’s economic growth.

“In light of the current economic challenges, I wish to draw attention to the deplorable state of the Ogbomosho-Lagos-Ibadan road, which is vital for economic activities. Rehabilitating this road will significantly improve the transportation of goods between the North and South, thus boosting our economy,” Buhari said.

The Senator, a prominent leader in his constituency, underscored his commitment to advocating for the interests of his people and emphasized the vital role of religious institutions in shaping society. He also called on citizens to actively participate in the democratic process by electing leaders who will work in the public’s best interest.

Celebrating Young Leadership

The award ceremony also recognized several notable individuals, including the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; the lawmaker representing Surulere Federal Constituency, Fuad Laguda; the Director General of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency, Charles Odii; and the Tony Elumelu Foundation. These figures were celebrated for their contributions to national development.

Speaking at the event, Adelele Olorunwa, chairman of the Christian Youth Movement, commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing young, dynamic individuals into his administration. He noted that these leaders, now being recognized, are contributing positively to the nation’s progress.

“We took our time to select the award recipients and put them to a vote, allowing Nigerians to choose the winners we are honoring tonight. This aligns with President Tinubu’s vision of empowering capable individuals to drive the country forward,” Olorunwa stated.
