Nigerian afro-house singer Niniola Apata has announced the death of her husband, Michael Ndika.

The Grammy-nominated artiste disclosed the heartbreaking news in a series of emotional posts shared on her Instagram story in the early hours of Wednesday.

Ndika was the Chief Executive Officer of NaijaReview, a multimedia platform focused on afro-house and contemporary African music.

“God took him,” the singer wrote in her first post.

“My husband died,” she added in another.

In a third emotional message, the artiste wrote: “God took him. 13 years. 13 f***ing years.”

Each post was accompanied by a photo of the couple.

The circumstances surrounding Ndika’s death were not immediately disclosed.

The music star had largely kept her marriage and personal life away from public attention and social media over the years.

Neither the singer nor her representatives have publicly provided further details on the incident.

Career and rise to fame

The 39-year-old singer rose to prominence after emerging as one of the top contestants on Project Fame West Africa in 2013.

She later established herself as one of Nigeria’s biggest afro-house exports with a growing international presence.

Her 2017 hit single Maradona gained global recognition and attracted attention from international stars including DJ Snake, Drake, Timbaland, and Beyoncé.

Fans and colleagues are expected to send condolences as news of the loss continues to spread across Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

The announcement has sparked emotional reactions online, with many sympathising with the artiste over the painful loss.
