Three men — Abiodun Bakare (32), Olanrewaju Bashorun (28), and Oluwaseun Corpe (26) — were on Monday arraigned before an Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly conspiring to steal a total of ₦2,651,000.
The defendants, whose residential addresses were not provided, are facing a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy to commit a felony, fraud, stealing, and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.
All three pleaded not guilty to the charges.
According to the prosecution, led by ASP Aminu Isaac, the alleged offences took place on May 20 at the Furniture Bus Stop along Ijede Road, opposite St. Raphael Hospital in Ikorodu.
Isaac told the court that the defendants fraudulently obtained the sum under the guise of selling liquor but failed to remit the proceeds into the company’s account. He identified the affected company as Sky’s Home Company.
The prosecutor further alleged that the men brought liquor into the company premises and sold it to customers without the company’s knowledge or authorization, an act deemed likely to disturb public peace.
He said the offences contravened Sections 411, 287, and 168(D) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.
Presiding Magistrate B.A. Sonuga granted the defendants bail in the sum of ₦500,000 each, with two sureties in like sum. The case was adjourned until July 3 for further mention.
