A recent report shows that TikTok removed over 2.1 million videos from its platform in Nigeria during the second quarter of 2024. This initiative is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to ensure a safe and positive user experience, as outlined in its Q2 2024 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report. The report notes that these videos were taken down for violating TikTok’s Community Guidelines.
This removal represents less than 1 percent of all videos uploaded in Nigeria during that period, highlighting TikTok’s proactive approach to content moderation. Key findings reveal that 99.1 percent of the videos were removed before any user reports, and 90.7 percent of the violative content was taken down within 24 hours.
Additionally, the report emphasizes TikTok’s global investments in advanced technologies to enhance content understanding and risk assessment. In June 2024 alone, the platform removed over 178 million videos, with 144 million of those removed automatically.
These technological advancements have significantly reduced the need for human moderation, thereby limiting user exposure to harmful content. TikTok’s global proactive detection rate has now reached 98.2 percent, underscoring the platform’s effectiveness in tackling harmful material before it reaches users.
