The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has said that President Bola Tinubu has fulfilled most of the promises he made to the northern region and remains committed to doing more.
Idris made this statement on Tuesday while speaking on the Hausa-language phone-in programme Hannu Da Yawa on Radio Nigeria Kaduna, as monitored by Voice of the People (VOP).
“Before the 2023 presidential election, President Tinubu visited the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation and made clear promises to the North, particularly in the areas of security, education, and agriculture,” Idris said.
He explained that the foundation recently invited members of the administration to a two-day interactive session themed ‘Accessing Electoral Promises: Fostering Government-Citizens Engagement for National Unity’, aimed at assessing progress on those commitments.
“After winning the election, President Tinubu fulfilled his promises to the North. He appointed several northerners into key positions within his administration,” Idris noted.
Among the appointments, he listed the Minister of Defence, National Security Adviser, Chief of Defence Staff, and ministers overseeing Agriculture, Women Affairs, Health, Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, as well as himself and many others.
“In total, more than 60 individuals from the North are currently serving in the Tinubu administration,” he added.
He said over 20 ministers and other key appointees were present at the foundation’s event to showcase fulfilled promises and achievements that impact not only the North but the entire country.
Addressing claims that the North has been sidelined, the minister said such allegations are unfounded.
“There’s been misinformation suggesting that the North has been neglected. But today, we have demonstrated with facts that this narrative is not true. President Tinubu has done exceptionally well for the North,” he asserted.
Idris concluded by reaffirming the administration’s commitment to continued public engagement and sensitisation, particularly in the North, to highlight the achievements of the Tinubu-led government.
