President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has cancelled the traditional June 12 national broadcast that was initially scheduled for 7:00 a.m. Instead, he will address the nation from the National Assembly during a special joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives.
There will also be no Democracy Day parade this year, breaking from previous celebrations. The reason for the cancellation of both the broadcast and the parade has not been officially stated.
The president is expected to arrive at the National Assembly by 12:00 noon, with the session beginning at 11:00 a.m. The event will include goodwill messages and honors to mark the day.
Later in the day, a public lecture titled “Consolidating on the Gains of Nigeria’s Democracy: Necessity of Enduring Reforms” will hold at 4:00 p.m. at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
