The Iran Football Federation has announced plans to file a complaint with FIFA over what it described as travel restrictions affecting the country’s preparations at the ongoing World Cup in North America.
According to the federation, the restrictions have disrupted technical and logistical plans despite the team submitting its tournament preparation schedule in advance.
A spokesperson for the federation said Iran’s national team had once again encountered limitations imposed by tournament organisers, which they argue could affect performance and competitive readiness.
Dispute over travel request
Iran had requested permission to travel from its base camp in Tijuana to Los Angeles two days before its upcoming match against Belgium scheduled for Sunday.
The federation explained that the request was intended to allow players sufficient time to adjust to local conditions and complete final tactical preparations.
“Given that the game will be played at 12:00 pm local time in Los Angeles, the Football Federation of Iran requested that the team be allowed to travel to Los Angeles two days before the match,” the spokesman said.
“The aim was to provide sufficient time for players to adapt to the match conditions, complete their final training session, and finalise preparations.”
However, the federation said the request was denied despite what it described as legitimate technical reasons.
Concerns over tournament conditions
Iranian officials argue that travel and accommodation arrangements can directly influence player recovery, match readiness, and overall performance during major international tournaments.
The federation has not yet disclosed the exact nature of the complaint it intends to submit to FIFA or whether it will seek any corrective measures before the fixture.
The development adds another layer of tension to preparations as teams navigate scheduling and logistics across multiple host locations in North America.
Awaiting FIFA response
At the time of reporting, FIFA had not publicly responded to the concerns raised by the Iranian federation.
Attention is now expected to shift to whether football authorities intervene before Iran’s crucial fixture against Belgium.
