“Tinubu is committed to ending insecurity” — Godswill Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has assured Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu is fully committed to ending insecurity across the country, expressing confidence that the challenge would soon become a thing of the past.

Mr Akpabio gave the assurance on Wednesday while receiving members of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria, led by its National President, Dr. Lima Ahmed, during a courtesy visit to the National Assembly in Abuja.

The Senate President’s remarks were contained in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom.

Nigeria has continued to face security challenges, including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and communal violence, with several states witnessing deadly attacks and mass abductions in recent months.

Speaking during the visit, Mr Akpabio said the recent rescue of abducted schoolchildren in Oyo State reflected the Federal Government’s commitment to improving security.

“As Nigerians, we are all aware of the insecurity challenges that we are currently facing. All I can say is that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is giving the situation its utmost attention, and that is what led to the recent release of the school children that were abducted in Oyo State.

“The current administration is doing a whole lot. I can assure you that very soon, the issue of security would be a thing of the past. Don’t rely on what you hear or see on social media. They are not a true reflection of what is happening in our country,” Mr Akpabio said.

Comments on women in politics

The Senate President also addressed the issue of women’s participation in politics, attributing the limited support women often receive during elections to the conduct of some female public office holders in the past.

According to him, the actions of some women who previously occupied public offices had affected opportunities for others seeking elective positions.

Support for ladies golf tournament

Mr Akpabio pledged the support of the National Assembly for the forthcoming international ladies golf tournament scheduled to hold at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja.

Earlier, the National President of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria, Dr. Lima Ahmed, thanked the Senate President for receiving the delegation and formally invited him to the tournament.

She also decorated Mr Akpabio as the Grand Patron of the association.
