Tinubu presents Shettima with APC vice-presidential nomination certificate for 2027

President Bola Tinubu has presented Vice President Kashim Shettima with the official certificate confirming his nomination as the All Progressives Congress (APC) vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

The presentation took place on Thursday during a brief ceremony at the President’s office in the State House, Abuja.

In a 45-second video shared by the State House media office, Mr Shettima was seen being ushered into the President’s office by the President’s Liaison Officer before receiving the nomination certificate from Tinubu.

The presentation formally confirmed Mr Shettima as Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election.

The ceremony followed the APC’s submission of the nomination forms of President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the candidate nomination deadline.

The nomination forms were presented to APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, at the Continental Hotel in Abuja on July 10 by the President’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, Ibrahim Masari, acting on Tinubu’s behalf.

INEC extended deadline

INEC had initially fixed July 11, 2026, as the deadline for political parties to submit Forms EC9 and EC9A–EC9E for presidential, vice-presidential, Senate and House of Representatives candidates, in line with Section 29(1) of the Electoral Act 2026.

Following appeals from political parties, the electoral commission later extended the deadline to Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

APC expresses confidence ahead of 2027 poll

The APC subsequently submitted the names of Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima as its presidential ticket for the 2027 election.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, expressed confidence that the ruling party would retain power in the next general election.

Tinubu won APC primary

At the APC presidential primary held on May 23, Tinubu secured 10,999,162 votes to defeat his sole challenger, Stanley Osifo, who polled 16,503 votes.

The 2027 presidential election is scheduled for January 16, in accordance with the revised electoral timetable under the Electoral Act 2026.
