A heavy downpour, accompanied by violent winds, wreaked havoc across parts of Warri and nearby towns in Delta State on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. The storm, which lasted for over two hours, caused widespread flooding, structural damage, and significant property losses, displacing numerous residents in the affected areas.
The hardest-hit communities include Jakpa Road, Ugbuwangue, Effurun, Jeddo, and Ughoton, where floodwaters submerged homes, and strong winds ripped off rooftops. Eyewitnesses reported scenes of devastation as several buildings were left uninhabitable, with water levels rising quickly in many homes, forcing residents to flee for safety.
Rhoda Johnny, VOP TV’s Benin Correspondent, reported from the scene, highlighting the dire situation faced by dozens of households. The destruction has left many without shelter, and urgent relief efforts are now underway. Residents and local authorities are calling for swift assistance to provide basic necessities and temporary shelters for the displaced.
As of now, efforts to assess the full extent of the damage are ongoing, with emergency response teams working to provide immediate support. The storm’s aftermath has raised concerns about the region’s preparedness for such extreme weather events, with many urging the government to invest in better drainage systems and infrastructure to mitigate future flooding risks.
