Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor have confirmed they are in transfer negotiations with Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah, with the former Liverpool star expected to arrive in Turkey on Wednesday for discussions.
The Black Sea club announced the development in a statement on Tuesday, saying Salah would first arrive at Istanbul Ataturk Airport before travelling to Trabzon later in the day.
“Mohamed Salah, with whom we have begun transfer negotiations, will be at Istanbul Ataturk Airport at 12:00 on Wednesday, August 5,” the club said.
“The player is scheduled to arrive in Trabzon on the same day in the evening hours.”
End of Liverpool era
Salah became a free agent after leaving Liverpool at the end of last season, bringing an end to a remarkable nine-year spell at Anfield.
During his time with the Reds, the Egyptian international won the UEFA Champions League and two Premier League titles, establishing himself as one of the club’s greatest-ever players.
He scored 257 goals in 442 appearances across all competitions, making him Liverpool’s third-highest goalscorer of all time.
In the Premier League, Salah has scored 193 goals, including 191 for Liverpool, placing him fourth on the competition’s all-time scoring chart behind Alan Shearer, Harry Kane and Wayne Rooney.
Difficult final season
The 34-year-old endured a challenging final campaign at Liverpool, scoring just seven Premier League goals as the club struggled for consistency.
Despite his dip in form, Salah remains one of Africa’s most decorated footballers.
He has also scored 66 goals in 119 appearances for Egypt and recently helped the Pharaohs reach the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup before their elimination by eventual runners-up Argentina.
Trabzonspor eye major signing
Trabzonspor finished third in the Turkish Super Lig last season, securing a place in the UEFA Europa League play-off round.
The club finished nine points ahead of rivals Besiktas, who had also been linked with Salah in recent weeks.
Should the deal be completed, Salah would become one of the biggest signings in Trabzonspor’s history and one of the highest-profile players currently playing in Turkish football.
