Trump says US Military will remain near Iran until a ‘real agreement’ is reached

US President Donald Trump has said American forces will remain deployed near Iran until a “real agreement” is secured, amid a fragile ceasefire and ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

Mr Trump made the declaration late Wednesday via his Truth Social platform, stating that US military assets would stay in position despite a temporary truce with Iran.

“All U.S. ships, aircraft, and military personnel… will remain in place in, and around, Iran, until the REAL AGREEMENT reached is fully complied with,” Mr Trump said.

He added that while a breakdown of talks was “highly unlikely,” the United States was prepared to escalate military action if necessary.

“If an agreement is not reached, we will revert to bigger, better, and stronger strikes,” Mr Trump warned.

The development comes as Washington and Tehran observe a two-week ceasefire agreed on Tuesday, which has already shown signs of strain.

Despite the truce, Israel has continued strikes in Lebanon, while disagreements persist over Iran’s conditions for ending hostilities.

Mr Trump noted that US forces remain “ready” and equipped for further operations, describing the military as “loading up and resting” in anticipation of possible escalation.

Strait of Hormuz tensions

A key component of the ceasefire involves the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping lane through which about one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passes.

Iran has agreed to reopen the waterway during the truce but has insisted it will retain control over it.

In its demands, Iran also called for recognition of its uranium enrichment programme, a condition not fully reflected in negotiations shared through international channels.

Mr Trump, however, dismissed concerns over the issue, stating that Iran would have “no nuclear weapons” under any final agreement.

Diplomatic efforts

Ahead of planned negotiations expected to take place in Pakistan, Mr Trump reiterated that the United States aims to ensure both the security of global energy routes and limits on Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

“The Strait of Hormuz WILL BE OPEN & SAFE,” Mr Trump said, emphasising Washington’s strategic priorities.
