United Nigeria Airlines has recorded another bird strike incident, forcing the grounding of an aircraft operating from Port Harcourt to Abuja.

The airline disclosed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesperson, Chibuile Uloka, confirming that the incident occurred while the aircraft was landing in Abuja.

This comes hours after the airline had earlier reported a separate bird strike involving one of its CRJ-900 aircraft, raising fresh concerns over aviation safety.

According to the statement, the latest incident involved an Airbus A320-200 operating Flight UN0515, which departed Port Harcourt and was scheduled to land at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at about 3:45 pm.

The airline explained that the bird strike affected the nose section of the aircraft but did not compromise passenger safety.

“United Nigeria Airlines regrets to inform our valued passengers and the general public of yet another bird strike involving one of our Airbus A320-200 aircraft. The incident occurred on landing and affected the nose section of the aircraft,” the statement read.

Safety measures

The airline emphasised that strict safety protocols were followed, adding that the aircraft has been withdrawn from operations for detailed inspections and necessary maintenance.

“In line with our strict and uncompromising safety standards, the aircraft has been immediately withdrawn from operations to undergo thorough technical inspections and any required maintenance before returning to service,” the statement added.

Rising incidents

The airline revealed that the latest occurrence brings to six the number of bird strike incidents involving its aircraft between January and April 2026.

It described the trend as “deeply concerning and unacceptable,” citing its implications for aviation safety and operational stability.

As a result, the airline warned that some flights across its network may experience disruptions or delays.

Passenger advisory

Affected passengers have been urged to remain patient as efforts are being made to minimise disruptions and provide necessary support.

“Our team is working diligently to minimise disruptions and provide support to all affected travellers. We remain fully committed to ensuring the safety, comfort, and reliability our passengers expect from us,” the airline stated.
