Abia State Governor Alex Otti has expressed confidence that he will secure a second term in office and complete his administration’s projects, as political activities gradually build up ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mr Otti made the declaration on Tuesday in his office while receiving members of the Old Students Association of the Federal School of Arts and Science, Aba, who visited him and voiced support for his re-election.
“About 2027, we don’t let it distract us… But we know that Abia people are not stupid. They know what is good for them,” he said.
“We are confident that we will complete the project that we have been asked to do by Abians.”
Mr Otti’s remarks come as political actors across Nigeria begin early positioning ahead of party primaries and the 2027 elections, with incumbents seeking to consolidate support.
Development focus amid political signals
The governor emphasised that governance remains his priority despite growing political conversations.
“This place is God’s own state… God doesn’t have unfinished business,” he added, suggesting continuity in his administration’s development agenda.
Mr Otti also commended the alumni association for its initiative to renovate a hostel in their alma mater, describing it as a commendable contribution to education.
“I want to congratulate you and encourage you to continue, because your story cannot be told without this school,” he said.
Power sector plans
Highlighting ongoing infrastructure efforts, Mr Otti disclosed progress in the state’s power sector reforms, including support for the Geometric Power project led by Bart Nnaji.
He said the state had reached an advanced stage in acquiring the Umuahia ring-fenced area of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company.
“The whole idea is to take excess power from Aba to the other eight local governments,” Mr Otti said.
He added that the establishment of the Abia State Electricity Regulatory Agency would enable the state to manage its electricity framework independently.
Support from stakeholders
Earlier, the President of the alumni association, Mr Tony Ejieji, praised the governor’s performance and infrastructural strides, noting that improved security influenced their decision to host their bi-annual meeting in Abia.
Mr Ejieji also commended developments at the Geometric Power Plant and ongoing projects across Aba and Umuahia.
