A former Kogi State Commissioner for Works, Mohammed Yusuf, has declared his intention to contest for the Adavi/Okehi Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 House of Representatives election.

Mr Yusuf made the declaration during the unveiling of his manifesto on Saturday at LGEA Osisi Primary School Field, where he addressed members of the All Progressives Congress and supporters.

He said his ambition is driven by the need to deepen development at the grassroots and strengthen representation for his constituency.

“I envision a constituency where the people have a stronger voice, where youths are empowered, women are supported and communities enjoy the dividends of democracy,” he said.

He added that his goal is to build on the achievements of Kogi State Governor, Mr Ahmed Ododo, particularly within the Adavi/Okehi axis.

Development agenda

Mr Yusuf pledged to prioritise key sectors, including road infrastructure, youth empowerment, education, and economic development.

“I will offer not just promises but experience, commitment and a proven dedication to public service,” he said.

He also unveiled a people-focused manifesto centred on transparency, youth development, and basic infrastructure.

“Our youths are the backbone of our communities… we will not just train our youths; we will empower them to stand on their own,” he said, outlining plans for vocational training, ICT skills, and startup support.

Infrastructure focus

The aspirant emphasised the need for improved access to potable water, identifying the revitalisation of the Osara Dam as a priority.

“Provision of potable and clean water is not a privilege, it is the people’s right,” Mr Yusuf said.

He also promised to maintain open governance and regular engagement with constituents.

“This is your mandate, your voice will always be heard,” he added.

Political background

Mr Yusuf previously served as Senior Special Assistant on Solid Minerals before his appointment as Commissioner for Works, a position he resigned from in March to pursue his political ambition.

He was subsequently replaced by Mr Ozigi Salami Deedat.

Stakeholders from the constituency have reportedly endorsed his candidacy ahead of the 2027 elections.
