Presidential aspirant Mohammed Hayatu-Deen has obtained the ₦100 million presidential expression of interest and nomination forms of the African Democratic Congress, officially entering the race ahead of the 2027 general elections with a promise to tackle insecurity, unemployment, and rising cost of living.
The forms were presented to him by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Prince Chinedu Idigo, making him the first aspirant to formally pick the ADC presidential ticket, according to a statement from his media team on Friday.
Shortly after picking up the forms, Mr Hayatu-Deen said the 2027 elections must go beyond politics and focus on national survival and economic recovery.
“Nigerians are tired of living in fear… they are tired of watching businesses struggle, jobs disappear, and the cost of basic necessities rise,” he said.
He stressed that insecurity remains the biggest threat to national development, insisting that no economy can thrive without stability.
“We cannot build prosperity in an atmosphere of fear and instability. Security is the foundation upon which every strong economy is built,” he added.
Economic reform agenda
Mr Hayatu-Deen, an economist and former corporate executive, pledged to introduce policies that would reduce business costs, expand job opportunities, and support small and medium enterprises.
He said his decades of experience in finance and development positioned him to drive institutional reforms and attract investment.
“I have spent decades helping businesses grow… Nigeria has the talent and potential to succeed, but we need disciplined leadership and serious execution,” he said.
ADC timetable and electoral roadmap
The ADC has fixed the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms between May 6 and May 13, 2026, as part of preparations for its primaries.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, Independent National Electoral Commission, has scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, while governorship and state assembly elections will hold on February 6, 2027.
INEC also set party primaries and dispute resolution between April 23 and May 30, 2026, with official campaigns expected to begin in August and September 2026.
Mr Hayatu-Deen’s entry adds to growing competition within the ADC as opposition figures position themselves ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
Political analysts say his economic background may appeal to voters concerned about inflation, unemployment, and national security challenges.
