The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, Seyi Makinde, will formally begin his 2027 election campaign in Bauchi State on 7 November.

The APM National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, confirmed the date, saying the campaign would move from Bauchi to states and communities across the country.

The development follows Mr Makinde’s disclosure at the party’s South-East town hall meeting that the APM would unveil its manifesto in Abuja on 4 November.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed 16 January 2027, for the presidential election.

APM begins grassroots mobilisation

Mr Yusuf said the party had already commenced grassroots mobilisation ahead of the election, including unit-to-unit, house-to-house and ward-to-ward engagements.

He said the APM was presenting Mr Makinde as an alternative to President Bola Tinubu, citing what the party described as the governor’s record of governance in Oyo State.

“We are confident that the town hall meetings have demonstrated the general acceptance of the APM and its presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, as a credible replacement for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC,” Mr Yusuf said.

He added that the campaign would take Mr Makinde’s message directly to Nigerians across the country.

Campaign to rely on grassroots support

A source in the Makinde-Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation said funding would not pose a major challenge because the candidate had what he described as “organic” support from Nigerians.

The source said the campaign had received encouraging feedback from town hall meetings held across the six geopolitical zones.

According to him, the campaign would rely largely on voluntary contributions and grassroots participation.

He said the Bauchi flag-off was particularly significant because the state is the home state of APM National Leader and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.

Oyo APM restructures campaign council

Meanwhile, the Oyo State Governorship Campaign Council of the APM has expanded its campaign committees as part of efforts to strengthen mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.

The council’s Director-General, Dr Nureni Adeniran, said a new Community Relations and Voters’ Education Committee had been created, while the existing Mobilisation Committee had been divided into specialised subcommittees.

The expanded committees are scheduled to be inaugurated at the Local Government Hall, Secretariat, Ibadan, on Friday, 6 November, at 3pm.

Additional members were also appointed to committees covering media and publicity, logistics and transportation, reconciliation and contacts, protocol and accommodation, youth and women mobilisation, workers and pensioners, religious contacts, volunteers, security and traffic, traders and artisans, venue and stage, welfare and medical services.

Mr Adeniran said the restructuring would strengthen the council’s ability to engage communities, educate voters, mobilise supporters and coordinate campaign activities across Oyo State.
