Nollywood star Bimbo Ademoye has ignited controversy after donning a full burqa and large sunglasses to shop unnoticed in a crowded market. The actress, who shared a video of the experience, claimed she wore the disguise to avoid recognition, later expressing her excitement about the stunt.
“The only way I could enter the market! I had so much fun! Definitely will do this again!” she wrote.
While some fans found the move amusing, others have criticized it as insensitive and inappropriate arguing that the burqa is a religious and cultural garment, not a costume for celebrity anonymity. Critics claim her actions trivialize the struggles of women who wear the burqa due to religious obligations and face discrimination for it.
Supporters, however, argue that Ademoye’s intent was harmless simply an attempt to enjoy a normal shopping experience without attracting attention.
The debate rages on was this an innocent disguise or a tone-deaf move that disrespects cultural and religious symbols?
