Agbaje wins Battle of unbeatens, claims WBA Africa belt

Nigerian boxer Taiwo Agbaje defeated Tosin Osaigbovo by unanimous decision on Sunday to win the WBA Africa lightweight title after a 10-round contest in Lagos.

The bout, held at the National Stadium Surulere, was promoted by De Lad’s Boxing and sanctioned by the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control.

Agbaje displayed resilience and composure throughout the fight, matching Mr Osaigbovo punch for punch in a closely contested encounter that kept spectators engaged.

After 10 rounds, the judges returned a unanimous decision in favour of Mr Agbaje, crowning him the new WBA Africa lightweight champion.

Pre-fight tension

Both fighters entered the ring unbeaten, heightening anticipation for the clash.

Mr Agbaje came into the bout with an 18-0 record, including 13 knockouts, while Mr Osaigbovo held a 12-0 record with eight knockouts.

Ahead of the fight, Mr Agbaje had vowed to “expose” his opponent, dismissing him as “just a boxer,” while Mr Osaigbovo expressed strong confidence, insisting victory was “1000 per cent sure.”

The victory marks a major breakthrough for Mr Agbaje, who secures his first continental title in the lightweight division.

The bout also reinforces his status as one of Nigeria’s rising boxing prospects, following an undefeated run and growing reputation in the sport.
