A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Kano State, Rabi’u Bichi, has predicted a landslide victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Kano ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mr Bichi, who is the Managing Director of the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, made the projection while speaking with journalists on Friday, citing what he described as unprecedented political consolidation within the party.
“President Bola Tinubu will get a landslide victory in 2027 due to the unprecedented consolidation of the APC political structure in the state,” he said.
The remarks follow a recent endorsement of President Tinubu as the APC’s sole presidential candidate for 2027 by party stakeholders in Kano.
The decision was reached during a meeting at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, where Mr Bichi formally moved the motion for the president’s adoption, which was seconded by Abdullahi Baffa Bichi.
Political realignment in Kano
According to Mr Bichi, major political blocs in Kano, including the legacy structure of former governor Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Assembly caucus led by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and defectors from opposition parties have united behind the president’s candidacy.
He argued that the political dynamics that shaped the 2023 elections have shifted significantly in favour of the ruling party.
“That level of elite consensus was absent in 2023 and gives the APC unmatched reach across Kano’s 44 local government areas,” Mr Bichi stated.
Fundraising and grassroots support
Mr Bichi also pointed to a recent fundraising effort by party stakeholders, who raised ₦50 million to support President Tinubu’s nomination process, as evidence of strong mobilisation capacity.
“The public fundraising… demonstrates a mobilisation capacity the opposition cannot match,” he said.
He added that federal projects and appointments under President Tinubu’s administration have positively influenced public perception in the state.
Highlighting key infrastructure initiatives, Mr Bichi referenced projects such as the Kano-Maradi rail line and irrigation expansion under the Hadejia-Jama’are River Basin as factors boosting the president’s popularity.
He further claimed that recent political developments, including the alignment of state and federal structures, have strengthened the APC’s electoral advantage.
“In Kano’s electoral history, that combination has always produced a landslide,” he added.
Although Tinubu has already secured his expression of interest and nomination forms, party supporters further demonstrated backing by contributing funds toward the process.
