The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party the winner of the Osun State governorship election held on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
Returning Officer Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, announced the results early Sunday morning at the collation centre in Osogbo. Adeleke secured 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 444,815 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished a distant third with 17,180 votes.
Adeleke won in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji took the remaining 11. The victory margin stood at 66,252 votes. INEC figures showed 2,339,544 registered voters, 1,010,684 accredited, 985,079 valid votes, 20,721 rejected ballots, and a total of 1,005,800 votes cast.
The closely contested poll saw strong performances by Adeleke in areas including Ede North, Ede South, Osogbo, Ife East, Egbedore, Oriade, Odo Otin, and others. Oyebamiji recorded wins in places such as Irewole, Isokan, Atakunmosa East, and Boripe.
Supporters of the re-elected governor erupted in jubilation in Osogbo and other parts of the state following the announcement, with celebrations marked by singing and dancing. The result returns Adeleke for a second term in office.
The election, contested by 15 political parties, was monitored closely amid reports of a generally peaceful process in many areas, though some incidents of vote-buying and intimidation were noted by observers.
