The Bible Society of Nigeria has proposed a budget of N1.07bn for 2027 to expand Bible translation projects and strengthen outreach initiatives across the country.

The proposal was disclosed in a statement signed by the organisation’s Manager of Media and Public Relations, Benjamin Mordi, on Friday.

According to the statement, the proposed budget represents a 14 per cent increase from the N943m approved for 2025 and reflects the organisation’s commitment to extending access to scriptures and humanitarian support across Nigeria.

The society disclosed that N216.6m has been allocated to ongoing Bible translation projects in different Nigerian languages.

Out of the amount, N54.2m has been dedicated to the Nigerian Sign Language Bible project aimed at improving access for the deaf community.

The organisation noted that translating and completing a full Bible project requires a minimum investment of N150m.

Support for vulnerable communities

Beyond translation efforts, the society also earmarked N162.1m for its “Macedonian Call” intervention programme.

The initiative provides Bibles and humanitarian support including food items, clothing, bedding materials and educational assistance to internally displaced persons and underserved communities across the country.

According to the statement, the organisation had already spent N102m in the first quarter of the year on Bible translation activities and outreach programmes.

Commitment despite economic challenges

Speaking on the proposed budget, the General Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Bible Society of Nigeria, Pastor Samuel Sanusi, said the organisation remained committed to impacting lives despite prevailing economic realities.

“Our passion for the spiritual and social transformation of Nigerians keeps us committed to making the Word of God available and affordable, despite the harsh operating environment,” he said.

Mr Sanusi added that the society would continue investing in initiatives that encourage spiritual development and contribute to the overall well-being of Nigerians.

The proposed budget forms part of the organisation’s broader efforts to improve access to translated scriptures while sustaining intervention programmes targeted at vulnerable populations nationwide.
