Afrobeats superstar Davido has declared that he believes he can win a presidential election in Nigeria but says he has no intention of venturing into politics under the country’s current electoral system, which he described as lacking transparency.
The singer made the remarks during a livestream with content creator Carter Efe, where he was asked whether he would consider contesting for public office.
Responding to the question, Davido expressed doubts about the credibility of Nigeria’s elections, saying he would only consider running for office if the electoral process became free, fair, and transparent.
He added that in a credible election, he believes he has the popularity and support needed to emerge victorious, even claiming he could win the presidency.
Davido also revealed that he is closely monitoring the upcoming Osun State governorship election, describing it as a personal test of the country’s electoral process.
The election is of particular interest to the singer because his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, is seeking re-election in Osun State.
Davido’s comments have since generated widespread reactions on social media, with supporters praising his confidence while others debated his views on Nigeria’s electoral system and the role of celebrities in politics.
