The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has again declared former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina, wanted over an alleged case of receiving stolen property.
The anti-graft agency announced the development in a public notice issued on Wednesday, and accompanied by a photograph of Mr Maina.
According to the EFCC, the 61-year-old, who is an indigene of Biu, Borno State, is wanted in connection with an alleged case of receiving stolen property.
In the notice, the commission appealed to members of the public with useful information about Mr Maina’s whereabouts to contact the agency or the nearest police station and other security agencies.
The EFCC stated: “The public is hereby notified that ABDULRASHEED ABDULLAHI MAINA, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in an alleged case of Receiving Stolen Properties.”
The commission listed its offices in Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt and Abuja as points where information about his whereabouts could be provided.
New allegation not detailed
The latest notice did not provide details about the alleged stolen property, the circumstances surrounding the allegation or when the alleged offence occurred.
It also did not state whether the new wanted declaration is directly connected to Mr Maina’s earlier pension-related criminal case.
Previous EFCC Wanted notice
This is not the first time Mr Maina has been declared wanted by the EFCC.
The agency previously declared him wanted in November 2015 over allegations including procurement fraud, stealing and money laundering linked to the pension biometric programme.
His long-running legal troubles later resulted in a money-laundering prosecution connected to funds linked to pension reforms.
Mr Maina was convicted by the Federal High Court in Abuja and sentenced to eight years in prison for money-laundering-related offences. The court also ordered the forfeiture of assets linked to the case.
He subsequently appealed the conviction. The Nigerian Correctional Service later disclosed that he was released from custody on 25 February 2025, after serving part of his sentence, with the service citing good conduct and applicable laws and regulations.
The latest EFCC notice places Mr Maina under a fresh wanted declaration, but the commission has not publicly provided enough information to establish whether the allegation is connected to his previous pension case.
For now, the EFCC is seeking information that could assist authorities in locating him.
