A former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress, citing shifting political dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Mr Gwarzo disclosed this in a resignation letter dated 1 May 2026 and addressed to the party’s chairman in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State, stating that his decision takes immediate effect.

Mr Gwarzo said his exit followed extensive consultations with political allies and supporters across the state.

“The decision comes after deep reflection and wide consultations with my political associates, supporters and well-wishers across the state,” he said.

He added that recent developments within the political space made it necessary to reassess his position.

“Recent political developments and the evolving political landscape have made it necessary for me to review my membership,” he stated.

Mr Gwarzo explained that his move was driven by the need to align with his broader vision for governance and development.

“My decision is informed by patriotic considerations and the need to pursue a political path that aligns with my vision for good governance, democratic values and sustainable development,” he said.
